New insights in ADEPTH density sensing capabilities

Last week Victor Roosens graduated cum laude at the Department of BioMechanical Engineering of the TU Delft under the supervision of Prof. dr. J. Dankelman with his thesis titled ‘A novel method for bone quality assessment using a sensor module during freehand drilling’. In his research Victor explored and demonstrated the capabilities of the SLAM Ortho sensor technology to not only indicate screw implant length, but also assess bone density.

This technology can be applied to increase patient safety in both trauma and spine surgery, where insight in drilling in the correct bone layers is essential. Further building on Victor’s research together with the TU Delft, we’re looking to develop more usefull features using data in the OR to support surgeons in providing the best care possible to patients with fractures.
