First-in-patient use

A new milestone has been reached!

Last week, the ADEPTH device has been used by the Erasmus MC to treat the first patients in the ADEPTH Pilot clinical trial. The image below shows the ADEPTH device, attached to the drill machine, that was used to treat a patient with a proximal humerus (upper arm) fracture. After all the hard work of our team it feels almost surreal to see our device in action in the OR for the first time.

Dr. Timo Haak, one of the first trauma surgeons to use ADEPTH, commented: "Determining implant length with the manual gauge is unreliable, and ideally with this you don't have to use it anymore when placing screws. This will save OR-time and reduce wasted implants."

The first clinical use is a major achievement for our company and the development team. We are also incredibly grateful for all the support we got from the department of trauma surgery at the Erasmus MC to make this happen. A big thank you goes out to Prof. Michiel Verhofstad, Esther M.M. van Lieshout, Manfred van der Graaf, Mathieu Wijffels, Nancy van Vuuren, and the sterilization and medical technology departments with Jolanda Buijs - Hegeman, Diana Bulkmans and many more who contributed to this milestone!

Our next steps are to further develop the ADEPTH device and achieve regulatory approval in the EU (CE) and US (FDA). Follow this page to stay up to date with the latest news about our progress!
